Your team

You will join the Directorate Digital Euro, which is part of the Directorate General Market Infrastructure and Payments and is responsible for leading the digital euro project. Following the successful completion of the project’s preparation phase, the next phase focuses on advancing technical readiness, deepening market engagement and supporting the legislative process.

For more information about the digital euro project, please visit the hub page on the ECB’s website.

In your role as a Market Infrastructure Specialist, you will be part of a growing team of approximately 100 people. We are looking to fill several specialist positions with a focus on: (i) explaining the value proposition of the digital euro for consumers, merchants and intermediaries; (ii) planning the rollout of use cases and activities related to delivering the pilot and the potential subsequent launch; and (iii) supporting the development and finalisation of the digital euro scheme’s rulebook.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the future of European payments, ensuring people across the euro area continue to have secure and convenient ways to pay, both in cash and digitally.

The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.

Your role

As a Market Infrastructure Specialist (policy profile), you will:

  • work with key digital euro stakeholders (for example by contributing to policy decisions within the Eurosystem and collaborating with market participants);
  • help explain the digital euro product and its value proposition for consumers, merchants and intermediaries;
  • contribute to the specifications of the digital euro product and the related user journeys;
  • participate in the development of digital euro components, such as the digital euro app and the offline solution;
  • present the project deliverables to high-level audiences.

For these positions we are seeking candidates who demonstrate the potential for growth, and we will support the selected candidates in developing the required skills.

The specific tasks and responsibilities assigned to the positions may vary depending on the final work distribution and approved setting of the next project phase of the digital euro project. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential:

  • a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business administration, economics, finance, political science, international relations, project management, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) or another relevant field (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences);
  • in addition to the above, a minimum of two and ideally more years of hands-on experience in product development, product requirement analysis, strategy development or regulatory affairs in the area of payments, banking or finance;
  • experience in one or more of the following areas: (i) detailing the value proposition of a retail payment solution; (ii) planning the rollout of use cases and activities related to a product pilot or launch; (iii) drafting technical payment implementation specifications and/or scheme rulebook specifications; (iv) assessing or formulating policy positions;
  • knowledge of the EU payments landscape and related legislation;
  • experience in drafting clear and concise reports or notes and presenting complex topics to high-level audiences;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired:

  • experience of retail payment solutions or developing an offline or partially offline payment solution;
  • a sound understanding of the digital euro product and the current legislative proposal on a digital euro;
  • knowledge of relevant European stakeholder associations and their views and stances on a digital euro.

You engage collaboratively with others. You pursue team goals and learn willingly from other people’s diverse perspectives. You signal any need for change by explaining it and proposing alternative solutions. You analyse complex information effectively and can evaluate different views to arrive at solutions. You know and anticipate stakeholder needs.

You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe.

You are motivated to be part of our team and to develop and use your skills and competencies to achieve the aims of this position.
