Your team
You will be responsible for the strategic direction and management of the Directorate General International and European Relations (DG/I) with the support of the senior management team. Our Directorate comprises approximately 120 colleagues across three divisions, including staff at the ECB’s representative offices in Brussels and Washington.
In cooperation with other departments, we prepare the policy positions of the ECB, the Eurosystem and the ESCB on international and European issues (including ECB Banking Supervision). We conduct economic analysis of all economies outside the EU, forecasting for key economies and regions. We also analyse non-macroeconomic policies and EU institutional issues. In addition, we prepare briefings for international and European meetings, coordinate international central bank activities and present the ECB’s views at these events.
In your role as Director General, you will report to the ECB’s Executive Board. You will be a leader with diplomatic abilities and economic skills, who sets the strategic direction for your Directorate – responsible for covering complex topics in a rapidly shifting global environment, including high-level international engagement and policymaking. With your extended management team, you will rethink products and processes to maintain staff engagement, improve their work-life balance and make employment in your Directorate an attractive and rewarding experience.

Further information
The contract offered will be fixed-term, the appointment being until 15 September 2028.
Temporary appointments may be extended or made permanent subject to organisational needs and budgetary constraints. This may result in a staff member with a non-convertible fixed-term contract being offered a convertible contract in accordance with the ECB Conditions of Employment.
This position involves extensive business travels.
